Of course you are going to have cheese at your annual Christmas party, but what cheese should you have?

Why not impress your guests with red and green cheeses?

Sage Derby is a green British cheese, colored with spinach juice and sage leaves. The cheese is fun to look at, with it's green marbled appearance. And the taste: think Monterey Jack with a slight herbiness.

A little hard to find in some parts, we buy ours at Corti Bros in Sacramento. You can buy it online here

Cheddar with Claret (sometimes also called Red Winsor) is an English Cheddar combined with French red wine. Like Sage Derby, the marbled appearance of the cheese is sure to impress the eyes. The rich, sharp flavor will impress the tongue.

You can buy it online here.

Wensleydale with Cranberries is an ancient cheese with a modern twist. Available year round, you are more likely to find it around the holidays. The cranberries give this cheese a little bit of tartness that cranberry lovers will enjoy.

We've found Wensleydale with Cranberries at Nugget Market here in Sacramento. You can buy it online here.

Bergenost is an American cheese with a Norwegian name. Its green wax rind will make it a great addition to your Christmas party cheese platter.

Bergenost is somewhat of a challenge to find. (See the discussion on the bottom of our Bergenost page in the cheese guide.) Try Costco, or Kutter's Cheese.

Basiron Pesto is a Dutch-style Gouda with the flavor of Pesto.

We've only found this one online. You can buy it here.

Basiron Pesto Rosso is a Dutch-style Gouda full of tomatoey goodness and Italian herbs. This would go great with the Basiron Pesto above.

You can buy it here.

So the cheese made with wine, does it contain alcohol? I'm not an alcohol fan, nor would I want to feed my kids or guests something with an alcohol content.

Though I can't answer for this cheese in particular, I've asked a few cheese experts about other cheeses that contain wine, and they tell me (at least with aged cheeses) the alcohol evaporates out before it gets to the store.
